DIRECTV is looking for a talented, highly motivated, self-driven individual with technical experience in large-scale video distribution to join our service operations team as a Tech 1. You will work on a team that owns technical recovery and maintenance for our entire lineup of channel services from acquisition through RF & downlink.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Complete understanding of IGMP protocol.
  • Streamlining services across virtual environments.
  • Ensure consistent, high-quality digital television signal transport and satellite transmissions across virtual environments.
  • You will provide on-site technical support for DIRECTV. You will develop strong working relationships with Content Team, Engineering, and other stakeholders to ensure a high level of quality is maintained and continuously improve the customer experience.
  • Leveraging automation tools for broadcast and utility tools for service restoral.
  • Installation, diagnosis, and maintenance of critical on-air video, audio, RF, baseband, signal processing, transport, and transmission equipment.
  • Participate in Incident, Change, Asset, and Lifecycle Management.
  • Summarize, document, and present technical information in verbal and written form.
  • Develop and maintain an excellent knowledge of signal delivery, signal broadcast, and streaming systems.
  • Entry level coding preferred including analyzing XML files, capturing logs, analyzing logs, video captures, and reporting issues to stakeholders.

What you’ll need to be successful:

Decision Making: Recognize problems and take action; use logic and good judgment to arrive at sound, well informed, and timely decisions; seek input from others and involve others when appropriate. Work effectively in multiple tasks and with changing priorities.

Database Management: Maintain and support service database, MOP documentation, and signal diagrams to ensure our data is always updated and accurate.

Video/Audio Acquisition: Capable of using various monitoring and analyzing tools to validate signal quality and signal attributes such as Close Captioning and SCTE triggers.

Video/Audio Transport and Compression: Understanding of Video/Audio Compression techniques and standards including incident response, root cause analysis, and problem management across a diverse set of technologies.

Ground Satellite Communication (RF): Support in tandem with our RF Support team for our Uplink and Downlink RF components.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Engineering, IT Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, and/or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working within a video acquisitions environment.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working within a broadcast operations environment.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working within a Satellite RF Uplink facility.
  • May require a background check due to job duties requiring routine access to DIRECTV and DIRECTV customer’s proprietary data. Qualified applicants with arrest and conviction will be considered for employment in accordance with local ordinances and state law.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to climb external antenna system ladders and work at heights up to 30 ft.
  • Dexterity to work in confined spaces down to 16 cubic ft.
  • Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather.

Special Requirements:

  • Be able to cover any shift spanning the 24/7 environment, including weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • All candidates must possess a valid ID.
  • Must have a negative pre-employment drug test.
  • Criminal background check must meet company hiring criteria.
  • Monitoring and troubleshooting include services specific to adult content.

The Base Salary range displayed below reflects the minimum and maximum target salary for the position and work location(s) listed in the job posting US Labor Market Zone(s). Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

DIRECTV WAGE ZONE

N3: $76,010 - $114,070

Please note that the salary ranges reflect base salary only and do not include bonus or benefits - when you consider all of these together, it represents a pretty impressive total compensation package.
