Data Security Architect

DIRECTV is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking SecurityData Architect with a strong focus on data security, privacy, and compliance. This critical role will be responsible for developing and leading data architecture strategies that ensure the protection of sensitive data while aligning with the business’s objectives. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of data governance, enterprise data management, and security frameworks, and will drive the design of scalable, reusable, and secure data solutions. As part of the IT architecture team, you will play an integral role in ensuring that all data assets are managed and protected in compliance with both internal and external regulations.

The Security Data Architect will collaborate across functions to deliver secure, compliant data solutions and governance models that address both current and future business needs. This position requires a strong background in designing secure data platforms, frameworks and architectures, as well as a track record of implementing data protection, privacy, and compliance controls at scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Architecture with Security & Compliance Focus:
    Lead the evolution of the enterprise data architecture by incorporating data security, privacy, and compliance best practices into all stages of data design. Ensure alignment with corporate objectives and regulatory requirements, such as GDPR, CCPA, and HIPAA. Design data architectures that facilitate secure data flow, data governance, and privacy protection.
  • Define Secure Data Architecture Guidelines:
    Establish data architecture standards, principles, and frameworks that embed security, privacy, and regulatory compliance requirements. Work closely with legal, security, and compliance teams to ensure that all data solutions comply with applicable regulations and internal data protection policies.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration for Data Security & Compliance:
    Lead discussions with business and technical teams to ensure data security and compliance considerations are fully integrated into data architecture solutions. Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to ensure that data strategies support business goals while meeting security and compliance milestones.
  • Evaluate Data Technologies with Security Considerations:
    Guide the evaluation and selection of data platforms, integration technologies, and cloud services with a strong emphasis on security and data protection. Advise on technologies that support secure data processing, storage, and access controls. Ensure that data solutions meet the security, privacy, and regulatory compliance standards at all stages of the architecture lifecycle.
  • Master Data Management (MDM) and Data Governance:
    Define the architecture for enterprise-wide Master Data Management (MDM) solutions with embedded security controls. Collaborate with governance teams to define data stewardship policies and procedures that align with security and compliance frameworks.
  • Develop Secure Strategic Insight Platforms:
    Lead the development of secure data platforms that provide a trusted, compliant source of truth for business analytics and decision-making. Promote the design and implementation of secure data pipelines, storage, and analytics solutions that ensure privacy and regulatory compliance.
  • Promote Data Ownership & Security Accountability:
    Foster a culture of data ownership and accountability across the organization with a focus on data security, privacy, and compliance. Drive the adoption of secure data practices and ensure that all teams follow governance frameworks in their data handling practices.
  • Drive Change Management in Data Security Practices:
    Lead the adoption of new data technologies and practices with a focus on implementing secure, compliant solutions. Ensure data-related change management processes emphasize security controls, regulatory alignment, and adherence to industry standards.
  • Develop Security-Centric Data & Integration Roadmaps:
    Create and maintain data roadmaps that incorporate security and compliance milestones. Ensure the long-term sustainability of secure data solutions and that data privacy requirements are addressed throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Educate & Advocate for Data Security Standards:
    Promote best practices for data security, privacy, and regulatory compliance across the organization. Lead training sessions and develop materials that empower teams to understand and apply security standards in their data design and implementation processes.
  • Secure Solution Design & Implementation:
    Provide leadership in designing and implementing secure, compliant data solutions. Develop detailed architecture diagrams and data flow documentation that integrates security measures (encryption, access controls, data masking) into the design and implementation of data architectures.

Key Qualifications

Experience & Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience) preferred.
  • 3 – 5 years of experience in IT, data architecture, or business/industry roles with a focus on data security, privacy, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven track record of designing and implementing secure, compliant enterprise data solutions and leading data governance initiatives.

Technical Expertise:

  • In-depth knowledge of data security frameworks, including encryption, access controls, and data masking techniques.
  • Experience with data platforms such as Azure Data Lake, AWS S3, Google Cloud Storage, and Big Data technologies, with a focus on securing sensitive data.
  • Solid experience with SaaS Applications, SQL and NoSQL databases, Business Intelligence platforms, and API-driven architectures, IAM Governance Processes with a focus on secure data access.
  • Familiarity with GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, and other relevant data protection laws and standards.

Leadership & Communication:

  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams to deliver secure and compliant data solutions.
  • Experience mentoring and guiding teams on data security and compliance best practices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders on security and compliance issues.

Strategic & Analytical Thinking:

  • Demonstrated ability to assess business requirements and translate them into secure, scalable data architectures that meet privacy and security needs.
  • Experience with developing long-term data security roadmaps that align with business and regulatory goals.

Methodologies & Frameworks:

  • Familiarity with System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies (Agile, SAFe, DevOps), with an emphasis on security and compliance integration.
  • Experience implementing data governance frameworks, data stewardship, and compliance standards (COBIT, ISO, NIST, SFIA, PMBOK, ITIL).

Preferred Qualifications

  • CISSP, CCSP, CSA or CISM Certification(s)
  • Experience with compliance audits, data encryption practices, and access control models.
  • Knowledge of Cloud Security best practices in Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud environments.

DIRECTV's compensation structure is designed to be market-competitive and fully supports efforts to attract and retain employees. It is the company's policy to offer pay that is competitive with other employers in the local market. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location.

The Base Salary range displayed below reflects the minimum and maximum target salary for each of DIRECTV's 4 (four) US Labor Market Zones. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

DIRECTV WAGE ZONES $116,375 - $211,255

Low (N1): $116,375 - $174,515

Mid (N2): $122,500 - $183,700

High (N3): $134,750 - $202,070

Top (N4): $140,875 - $211,255
