Position: Supplier Quality/Manufacturing Engineering Manager

Reports To: Director of Engineering and Quality

Status: Exempt

General Responsibilities:

Work directly with DIRECTV’s Global OEMs/CMs to improve Quality of products and manufacturing processes by developing and implementing robust processes that will capture and reduce defects during products life cycles. Work collaboratively with internal/external Product Management and Engineering teams to identify and document design solutions to failures uncovered during product testing or reported by the field and ensure that all failures are corrected before product launch. Drive cross-functional product improvement initiatives and generate metrics to measure improvement and effectiveness.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Effectively manage suppliers’ performance in the following areas:
      • Incoming Inspection Testing for raw materials
      • In circuit and PCBA testing coverage and performance
      • Final test (manual or automated)
      • Out of box audit plan and execution
  • Working with supplier to maintain target production yields and address any out-of-control processes using advance Quality Control tools.
  • Manage, Coordinate and track to Closure Engineering/Process Change Requests (ECO) with internal/external Eng. teams and respecting Manufacturing/Quality operations.
  • Manage, Coordinate and Track to closure Hardware Design/Material/Process related issues detected in production, source/incoming inspections or from the field, using JIRA bug tracking database & tools.
  • Maintain corrective actions/preventive actions that are pending with suppliers for defects that are production/process related and drive to closure.
  • Publish test reports to provide information in a clear and concise manner that can be utilized for approval of HW into mass production.
  • Ensure that failures identified during product testing are tracked for root cause and corrective action.
  • Participate in design reviews to offer design solutions to failures uncovered during production at the manufacturer.
  • Ensure that performance results are thorough and clear so that sound decision making can be achieved in relation to the product specification or supplier performance.
  • Provide support to supplier’s Test Engineering group in the setup/maintenance and trouble shooting of test systems and software.
  • Work directly with suppliers to document processes, make process improvements, and develop new technologies to improve quality/and or cycle times of products produced by supplier.
  • Provide weekly/monthly and quarterly yield reports to for all products produced at each supplier.
  • Set Yield Goals by product based on historical data and ensure continuous process improvement plans are being created and followed by each supplier.
  • Conduct initial and ongoing process audits on the manufacturing site and address any non conformance to closure.
    • Maintain / develop documented procedures and maintain records as needed in accordance with TL9000/ISO9001 Quality Management System.
    • Position requires is a hands approach and execution in the implementation of responsibilities.
    • Perform all other duties as assigned and required.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • BS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering required - Masters preferred
  • 6+ years of demonstrated experience in Electronic Products’ Design, Development and Manufacturing Assembly, Test, Qualification Processes.
  • Detailed working knowledge of Electronics Production Test Protocol & Standards.
  • Knowledge of TL9000/ISO 9001 QMS standards and auditing requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized and ability to prioritize.
  • Strong work ethic with a "can-do" attitude.
  • Results-oriented and a self-starter.
  • Direct experience/knowledge with electrical component and circuit knowledge is required.
  • Experience in RF, Audio/Video Reproduction, Satellite communication and Wireless Technology.
  • Proven success in Supplier Quality Engineering, Process Engineering and Project Management.
  • Working Experience in High Volume Manufacturing at Global World Class Manufacturing Operations.
  • Travel between 15%-25%.

Salary Range:

Our Professional Techincal Process Quality Engineer has a range is $87,200 to $130,800 depending on experience. Not to mention all of the other amazing rewards that working at DIRECTV offers.
