Director of Pricing & Packaging for Commercial, International Language, Spanish Language

As the Director of Pricing & Packaging for Commercial, International, and Spanish Language, you will develop, implement, and execute on promotional strategies that drive subscriber growth and manage the offering for the commercial segment, international language offering, and Spanish language offering.

As DIRECTV seeks to drive long-term profitable growth and a differentiated customer experience, this position will be tasked with keeping abreast of customer needs to ensure we provide exceptional choice and value. This will require envisioning creative solutions to meet those customer needs while aligning with enterprise subscriber, revenue, and margin goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop actionable promotional strategies that drive subscriber growth to achieve or exceed volume targets, balancing gross adds with financial return
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with internal channel partners to achieve shared subscriber goals and maximize operating income
  • Develop content packaging strategy that keeps DIRECTV’s content offering competitive, balancing price with customer value
  • Engage with content acquisition org to develop content renewal strategies
  • Drive evaluation of customer impact from new content
  • Lead ad-hoc strategic projects that improve the acquisition experience and drive gross adds
  • Interface with senior executives to drive improvements through the business

(40%) Define and refine DIRECTV video promotional strategy to drive subscriber growth and achieve volume targets, balancing volumes and financial return in the Commercial, International Language, and Spanish Language segments

  • Develop and support strategic principles to guide promotional plan for new acquisition, migrations, and upgrades
  • Define and refine offer strategy and develop the revenue roadmap for DIRECTV
  • Develop offer plans on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, adjusting as needed based on volume vs. OI gaps
  • Analysis of channel performance and other data to understand, inform and optimize sales and promotional strategy
  • Utilize analytics and financial modeling to drive fact-based decision making
  • Model offer and incentive strategy in partnership with Finance and Pricing to value the subscriber opportunity and financial return on a tactic level
  • Coordinate with Consumer Research, Competitive Intelligence, Customer Service, and Investor Relations to track customer acquisition needs, industry trends and competitive dynamics, and to identify threats and opportunities
  • Be a champion for the offer execution process and support communication cross functionally
  • Work with cross-functional stakeholders (including Sales, Marketing, Analytics, Finance, Legal, Operations, and IT) to ensure buy-in, strategic and operational alignment, and proper execution of promotional plan

(20%) Develop content packaging strategy that keeps DIRECTV’s content offering competitive, balancing price with customer value

  • Develop and lead periodic enhancements Commercial, International, and EE programming packages to meet customer needs while aligning with ACPU goals and programming contractual requirements.
  • Leverage analyses of viewership data and gathering competitive insights
  • Work with the Programming Acquisition team to identify the latest programmer developments and trends, and support the team during the deal planning and negotiation process
  • Align on key deal objectives and priorities, and the negotiation approach
  • Determine customer impact of content changes, and work with financial organization to quantify fair value ranges for content
  • Work in conjunction with the Marketing, Analytics, and Programming teams to keep abreast of video content trends, including opportunities to bring new content into the DIRECTV offering profitably to improve the customer value proposition

(20%) Manage relationships with Channel Partners to achieve shared subscriber goals

  • Build strong relationships with internal partners to develop and execute offers and marketing strategies to support revenue and sub growth goals
  • Act as an internal consultant for channel owners on the in their ongoing efforts to evaluate sales channels and potential partners, regularly generating key learnings from activities to better inform decisions at both the strategic and tactical levels, including:
    • Online
    • Retail/Authorized Retail
    • Indirect (LDC, Carriers, National Retail, DAP)
    • Call Centers
  • Obtain feedback from channel owners on offer and incentive performance to help guide future strategy and assess channel specific opportunities for growth

(20%) Lead and execute ad-hoc strategic projects and interface with senior executives

  • Be the “tip of the spear” as the first touchpoint in the customer lifecycle – manage projects involving the customer journey as they first enter our video platforms or act as a consultant for other teams’ projects from an acquisition lens
  • Develop strategic thinking around margin-based opportunities that leverage the DIRECTV Video platforms, premiums, and other assets as we maximize gross adds
  • Provide regular updates to C-level executives including the CMO, CIO, and CEO regarding proposed promotional strategies and implementation updates
  • Prepare reports used by C-level executives for discussion at the Executive Committee
  • Build relationships with VP and SVP levels across Customer Care, Retention, Programming, Sales, Operations, and Marketing to both generate strategies and to drive coordinated implementation of agreed upon projects.

  • 7-10 years overall in Strategy or Business development, Marketing, Strategic Consulting, or Subscription Based Digital Acquisition
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business or related field of study; MBA or other advanced degree from a leading (top-10) program preferred
  • Ability to champion ideas and execute in an expedited timeframe
  • Ability to analyze and apply data to business strategy and goals; financial acumen is a must
  • Proven success leading large cross-functional teams and managing various enterprise priorities
  • Self-directed, results-oriented individual who can independently handle multiple priorities and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Resourcefulness and problem-solving skills; ability to pivot quickly and think on your feet
  • Excel skills - business models, pivot tables, data analysis
  • Strong strategic, financial, analytical, and conceptual skills
  • Strong written and oral communications, with experience preparing documents and presenting to Senior Executives, internal and external partners, and technical audiences
